Great Southern Outdoors Wildlife Plantation is located in Bullock County Alabama, which to avid hunters who know about Alabama hunting, is considered the top area in the Black Belt Region to hunt. Alabama is ranked number two in the nation for deer population and Bullock County is ranked number one in the state.
Made up of over 6000 acres, GSO has been under trophy management for over 20 years. In 2021 we were home to the National Deer Association’s (formerly QDMA) “Deer Steward II Class”. The Black Belt Region is well known for its reach soil which produces an abundance of natural protein in the vegetation that covers the land. Springs, creeks, and lakes add to making this a natural habitat for the numerous animals that roam freely, including whitetail deer, eastern turkey, wild hogs, bob cats, and coyote, as well as fresh water fish.
Rex Pritchett III, owner of Great Southern Outdoors, opened GSO with a vision of creating a place where families as well as corporate people would feel at home. We have hosted families from all over the country, celebrities, ambassadors, governors, senators, contractors, farmers, veterans, active military and people with disabilities, to name a few. He has since turned over management of the plantation to his son, Hunter, who has worked here his whole life. Making sure each person has the best experience possible, no matter what walk of life they are from, is the platform Great Southern Outdoors was built on.
Great Southern Outdoors takes pride in building a solid reputation that stands on the principles of honesty and fairness to everyone. In doing so it has been the honor of GSO to be asked by the Governor of AL to host a few of the New York fire fighters after the 911 tragedy, be a part of the Governor’s One Shot turkey hunt and host ambassadors and guests from other countries.
GSO is a host destination for many outdoor writers and has been the location of dozens of cover shots.
The 12 station champion sporting clay course is always a plus for those looking for action during some down time.
Great Southern Outdoors is well known for their Quail tournaments. Corporate groups as well as individuals compete for prizes on a 3 day event.
In 2016, GSO was home to the Alabama World Champion Bow Hunter Tournament. In this event, hunters got to scout their own area and then hunt for 3 days, in early December, competing for the title and prizes. The winners of each bracket returned in February to compete for the title of Alabama World Champion Bow Hunter.
